Shocking video released by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) on Tuesday more than a dozen people walked past him while he was struggling.‌There was one man who even watched on for several seconds before turning around and heading the other way. When his clothes lodged deeper into the escalator are the fabric tightened around his neck that led him to struggle to breathe.A few moments later, McCluskey collapsed and remained motionless on the stairway. About 20 minutes later, an employee arrived and stopped the escalator.‌Medics arrived a few moments later, according to the Boston Globe. Sommerville police said McCluskey was "pinned at the bottom of the escalator."Their report said McCluskey was "unresponsive, bare-chested and his clothing was tightly lodged within escalator steps. I immediately assessed McCluskey for a pulse and detected none."Firefighters who arrived also found McCluskey's skin on his back had been pulled into the escalator. At one point firefighters believed the escalator would need to be dismantled to free him from the machinery.‌His sister told NBC Boston her brother struggled with drug addiction in recent years. Speaking to NBC Boston, she added: "He did his best every single day to show up for the people that he loved in the ways that he could."McCluskey had been taken to Massachusetts General Hospital and he was in a coma for 10 days before he succumbed to his injuries on March 9. His obituary said he was a father of two young boys and had worked as a carpenter.Article continues belowIt said: "He loved creating things and took satisfaction in seeing a job through from start to finish. Above all, he loved being a father to his two sons, Shayne and Steven, who meant the world to him."The Middlesex District Attorney's Office will carry out an investigation into the incident.
