MANILA, Philippines—A critically endangered Philippine freshwater crocodile, locally known as “bukarot,” was safely rescued from waters off Valenzuela City after a coordinated response by environmental authorities and the local veterinary office.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Metropolitan Environmental Office – North Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Office and the City Veterinary Services Office.In a statement on Friday, the DENR – National Capital Region (NCR) said initial assessment showed the crocodile was in stable condition, measuring around 7 feet and 3 inches long and weighing approximately 70 kilograms.
For its safety and proper management, the crocodile was immediately transferred to the Biodiversity Management Bureau – Wildlife Rescue Center, where it will undergo closer monitoring, assessment, and rehabilitation.
