Five people, including a 14-year-old, are in hospital with serious injuries after a 'stolen car' crashed during a police chase through Goodmayes, east London16:49, 16 May 2026Updated 17:14, 16 May 2026Multiple people, including a 14-year-old, are seriously injured after a car believed to have been stolen crashed during a police chase in East London.Officers said they began pursuing the vehicle at around 12.30am before it struck another car outside a Tesco Extra in Goodmayes, with an air ambulance and specialist paramedics deployed to the scene.The driver, a woman in her 20s, and four passengers ploughed into a second car at the junction of High Road and Barley Lane, close to Goodmayes station.Paramedics initially treated ten people at the scene before rushing nine to hospital for further treatment, with one person declining further aid.The Metropolitan Police said the five people who remain seriously injured are aged between 14 and 46.The driver of the second car, two of their passengers and a moped driver were all treated by London Ambulance Service (LAS), the force said.Officers have arrested the driver of the suspect car on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft and failing to stop, reports My London.Her four passengers - a woman in her 40s, a teenage girl, and two men in their 20s - were also arrested on suspicion of being in a stolen vehicle. They each remain in hospital as of this afternoon.Farhan, who works at Flames Pizza Oven opposite the Tesco Extra, recalled hearing "a really loud bang" at around 12:30am as sirens blared in the area. He said he saw multiple police cars on Goodmayes High Road and believed they were pursuing a vehicle, reports the BBC. Two men at the crash site appeared to be injured, he added.A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called today (Saturday 16) at 12.34am to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Barley Lane and Goodmayes Road, Ilford."We sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, an incident response officer, our joint response unit, an advanced paramedic practitioner, members of our Hazardous Areas Response Team (HART) and London’s air ambulance.Article continues below"We treated ten patients at the scene and took nine to hospital. One person declined further aid."High Road is currently closed in both directions between Goodmayes Road and Eccleston Crescent, with bus routes 86 and 364 on diversion.The Met Police have asked anyone with information about the crash to contact them.
