Bollywood star Salman Khan has often spoken about how important family is in his life. Even after becoming one of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars, the actor continues to stay with his parents at Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai. In a recent interview with Variety India, Salman opened up about the first expensive thing he ever bought after entering films, and it was not for himself.The actor revealed that he once took a loan to buy a Rolex watch worth around Rs 9 lakh for his father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan. Salman admitted that at that point in his career, he did not even have enough money to pay for the watch completely.Salman Khan says he borrowed money for the giftSpeaking about the purchase, Salman recalled how much he wanted to buy the watch for his father despite not being financially secure at the time.“The first expensive thing I bought was a Rolex watch for my father, which, when I started wearing watches again, he gave me to wear. When I got the watch, I didn’t have the money for it, but I liked it for my father. At that point in time, it cost something like nine lakh rupees. I had four rest I got as a loan.”The actor said the reaction from his father was not what he expected. According to Salman, Salim Khan was upset that his son had spent so much money so early in his career.“When I gave it to my dad, he said, ‘You haven’t even started working properly, and you started doing all these things. Do you think of yourself as some king?’ While he wasn’t in favor of me getting that watch, he later called it a piece of jewelry. When I started wearing watches, he gave me this one.”Over the years, the Rolex ended up coming back to Salman. The actor shared that once he began wearing watches again, his father returned the same watch to him.Salman clears rumours about owning a luxury watch collectionSalman also addressed the long-running talk around his luxury watches. The actor said people often assume he owns a huge collection, but according to him, that is not true.“I had stopped wearing watches for the last 26-28 years of my life. Now, if you see me wearing a watch, those aren’t always mine. They belong to friends; I take them to try on, wear, and then they go back to them. So this whole thing is that he’s got a collection of so many watches and so much… I just have that one Rolex. Rest all belong to my friends.”The actor’s statement surprised many fans because Salman is frequently seen wearing high-end watches at events and public appearances.Actor also spoke about fitness and food habitsDuring the same interaction, Salman also opened up about his eating habits and fitness routine. The actor said he does not really believe in cheat meals and prefers balancing food with exercise.“Every day is a cheat meal for me. I’d rather spend that extra 20 minutes or that extra hour in the gym, but I’ll eat. I’ll eat what I eat. No matter how tasty the food is, I will take one tablespoon of rice. I don’t touch rotis. And that’s it. Then whatever protein I need, I will try and finish it with that one tablespoon of rice.”
