The announcement was described as a reciprocal arrangement, following a similar visa facilitation gesture previously extended by the Government of Rwanda to Nigerian citizens.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the full implementation of a 30-day visa exemption for nationals of the Rwanda, following a bilateral agreement endorsed at a high-level diplomatic engagement between both countries.

In a press statement issued on Friday, May 25, 2026, the Service confirmed that it had completed all necessary arrangements to enforce the directive, which was first announced by President Bola Tinubu, during the Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda.

The statement was signed by DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the Service Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, Abuja.

According to the statement, the policy grants Rwandan nationals the right to enter Nigeria without a visa for a period not exceeding thirty (30) days, provided the visit is for lawful purposes such as tourism, business activities, and official engagements.
