New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday set aside the Delhi High Court order suspending the life sentence awarded to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case.A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and justice Joymalya Bagchi remitted the matter to the high court for fresh adjudication.Also read: Unnao rape case: SC sets aside order suspending Sengar's life term, asks HC to decide plea afreshThe apex court asked the high court either to decide Sengar's appeal against conviction within three months or pass a fresh order on the application seeking suspension of sentence.The Supreme Court had in December last year stayed the Delhi High Court order suspending Sengar's sentence and granting him bail during the pendency of his appeal against conviction in the Unnao rape case. The CBI had challenged the high court order before the apex court.

The Supreme Court has overturned a Delhi High Court decision. This decision had suspended the life sentence for former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case. The Supreme Court has sent the case back to the High Court. The High Court must now decide Sengar's appeal within three months. This follows a challenge by the CBI.
