Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of South Korea’s conservative opposition People Power Party, claimed that the country is in “big trouble” due to policies by the Lee Jae Myung administration that favor China and North Korea and its consideration of scaling back military exercises with the US. “The current [Lee] regime has declared the full restoration of Korea-China relations. It declared Seoul respects the North Korean system,” Jang wrote in an op-ed published Saturday by the Daily Caller, a conservative pro-Donald Trump media site based in Washington.“It banned civil organizations from sending leaflets across the border,” he added. “It indicated its intention to reduce combined US-Korea military exercises.” Jang also expressed his party’s unconditional support for the US, saying, “There are only two choices: Stand with the free world — clearly, without conditions — or do not stand at all.” Jang’s op-ed is an apparent attempt to stoke distrust of the Lee administration in the US and among conservatives in South Korea ahead of the June 3 local elections.
