Lawmakers will vote next week on two proposals by opposition parties PASOK, SYRIZA and New Left to probe the farm subsidy and phone tapping cases.

In the first case, the preliminary investigation proposal concerns two former conservative ministers and a simple majority is required. Given that ruling New Democracy has a majority of MPs, a rejection is alnost guaranteed; any other outcome in next Thursday’s vote would constitute a huge surprise.
