TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington is considering lifting sanctions on Chinese companies that buy Iranian oil and will make a decision in the coming days.“Well, we talked about that, and I’m going to make a decision over the next few days,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One shortly after leaving Beijing following his two-day summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.Trump also commented on Iran’s proposals for further negotiations with the United States, saying Tehran’s suggestions for resolving tensions were unacceptable to Washington.“Well, I looked at it, and if I don’t like the first sentence, I just throw it away,” Trump said. When asked what he meant by the “first sentence,” Trump replied, “An unacceptable sentence. Because they have fully agreed: no nuclear. And if they have any nuclear of any form, I don’t read the rest of their letter.”He reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.“20 years is enough. But the level of guarantee from them… it’s got to be a real 20 years,” Trump said when asked about Iran’s reported proposal for a 20-year moratorium on uranium enrichment.Trump also warned that if Iran refuses to transfer its enriched uranium stockpiles to the United States, Washington would “take it” itself.Meanwhile, Trump said the current ceasefire arrangement imposed by the United States on Iran was carried out at the request of third-party countries.“We really agreed to a ceasefire at the request of other countries.I wouldn't have really been in favour of it, but we did it as a favour to Pakistan,” Trump said.Read: Trump Praises Strong Xi Ties as Beijing Trip Wraps UpClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
