The Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics Paper 12 (9709), administered on April 29 in Administrative Zones 3 and 4 — covering Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan and South Asia, as well as Cambodia, parts of Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam — was leaked before the scheduled exam time, the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) announced on its website and in letters sent to affected schools late last week.
Due to the scale of the leak, Cambridge decided to invalidate the results for the paper.
"The extent of sharing means we cannot use this paper to award final exam results. We are therefore cancelling this paper, and it will not be used to generate results through calculated assessment," CAIE said.
All affected candidates will sit a replacement exam on June 9 free of charge. The original results release date of Aug. 11 will remain unchanged, and the scores will still be accepted by universities.
Cambridge acknowledged that the retake would place additional pressure on students, but said many school leaders supported the decision to ensure scores accurately reflect students' abilities and maintain fairness and transparency.
