MANILA, Philippines – Global logistics giant United Parcel Service Co. (UPS) is seeking to expand its footprint in Asia by pushing to launch new cargo flights between Hong Kong and Clark, Pampanga.
The Hong Kong and Clark, Pampanga is a route currently only serviced by its rival FedEx Express Corp.
In an application dated May 14 seen by the Inquirer, UPS asked the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to allow it to fly six weekly “fifth freedom” all-cargo flights between Hong Kong and Clark International Airport.
Fifth freedom refers to the right that allows airlines from one country to carry cargo or passengers between two foreign countries. In this case, UPS is headquartered in Atlanta, United States.
