The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a $200,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of a former U.S. Air Force intelligence officer.
According to CNN and an FBI statement, the individual has been identified as Monica Witt, a former Air Force counterintelligence officer who reportedly defected to Iran in 2013.
U.S. officials say Witt was targeted for recruitment in 2012 after attending conferences in Tehran organized by a group linked to the “New Horizon” program. The U.S. Department of Justice had previously indicted her on charges related to assisting cyber-espionage operations against U.S. military personnel.
In its latest statement, the FBI emphasized that the case remains open. The bureau said it believes there are individuals with knowledge of her whereabouts who may be willing to provide information in exchange for the reward.
