Congress workers on Friday (May 15) staged a protest near the new bus stand here, slamming the extension of the CBI Director’s tenure.

The Union government had extended the tenure of CBI Director Praveen Sood by another year on May 13, a day after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressed his dissent over the selection process of the head of the country’s top investigating agency.

Regarding NEET paper leaks, the Congress demanded that the State government pass an ordinance allowing entrance to medical colleges based on Class 12 board exam marks. The protesters wanted NEET scrapped and the State government empowered to set up guidelines for entrants to medical colleges.

Party workers also slammed the hike in petrol and diesel prices and demanded that the prices be slashed and the inflation in the prices of all essentials be controlled. The protesters faulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for policies that, they said, led to the fuel crisis and its worsening impact.

In Hosur, the protests were led by the party’s district secretary Harish Babu Sambangi in Ram Nagar.
