Donald Trump is currently visiting China along with senior White House officials and several leading figures from the fields of trade and economics.

Speaking to Fox News on Thursday, May 14, Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping had offered to help ensure ships can continue passing through the Strait of Hormuz. His comments come as the United States and the Islamic Republic still have not reached a final agreement to end the war. During the interview, Trump said: “President Xi wants a deal to be made; he made an offer and said, ‘If I can help in any way, I’d like to help.’”

He further added: “Look, anyone who buys that much oil obviously has some kind of relationship with them. But he said, ‘If I can help in any way, I’d be happy to help.’ He wants the Strait of Hormuz to be open.”

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told NBC News that although Trump discussed Iran during his meeting with Xi Jinping, he “made no requests of him.”

Rubio also said: “We have not asked China for help, and we do not need their help.”
