A total of 624 beaches across Greece have been awarded Blue Flag status this year, placing the country second among 51 countries assessed, according to the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF).
The country continues to record a steady upward trend, surpassing the 600-award threshold once again and accounting for 14% of all Blue Flag beaches among participating countries in the international program, which promotes high standards in beach cleanliness, safety, and environmental management.
Within Greece, Crete and Halkidiki ranked among the top regions, with 154 and 93 Blue Flag beaches respectively.
Spain topped the list with over 642 Blue Flag beaches.
Worldwide, the International Blue Flag Committee awarded 4,378 beaches, 747 marinas, and 158 tourist boats.
