Microsoft and Asus have rolled out a fresh batch of updates for the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, with the biggest headline being the arrival of Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) in preview for Xbox Insiders on the Ally X.Auto SR tackles a familiar handheld frustration: when you dock to a TV, you're usually stuck choosing between sharp visuals or smooth framerates.
The new feature sidesteps that tradeoff by running upscaling on the device's NPU—separate from the GPU—so the processor can keep cranking frames while Auto SR handles the image quality lift in parallel.
The result is 1440p-like detail at framerates that would normally require dropping to 720p.
Forza Horizon 5, one of the suggested test titles, reportedly hits those targets with a 30% FPS boost over native 1440p rendering. The docking experience has also been tightened up across both devices.
Plug into a TV and the handheld display now shuts off automatically—no digging through display settings.
