After days of upheaval, an official leadership challenge is on the cards, with the mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham, making another bid to return to Westminster as an MP.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer, weakened but still sitting defiantly in No. 10, has apparently accepted the challenge and he will not block him from becoming the Labour candidate in the Makerfield by-election.
