Seth Meyers didn’t need many words to explain President Donald Trump’s disputed boasts of dominance in his war against Iran: “He lies.”The “Late Night” host set up his quick joke Wednesday by noting, “The New York Times reported that U.S. intelligence assessments indicate that Iran’s military remains much stronger than President Trump claims.”“Oh, I can explain,” Meyers declared. “He lies.”That zinger appears at the 49-second mark:The Times report this week seemed to obliterate Trump’s assertions that the U.S. had “decimated” Iran’s military capabilities and that “never in the history of warfare has an enemy suffered such a clear and devastating large-scale losses in a matter of weeks.”U.S. intelligence briefings “behind closed doors” reveal that Iran has access to most of its missile sites and that 30 of the 33 sites along the Strait of Hormuz are operational, according to the Times. Iran still has 70% of its mobile launchers as well.As for the alleged lying, The Washington Post once reported that Trump tallied 30,573 untruths in his first term alone. But it was an apparent moment of truth that got Trump shellacked by critics before he left for China this week. The NewsCan't Wait.Neither Can We.Your SupportFuelsOur MissionYour SupportFuelsOur MissionMisinformation spreads fast. In response to a reporter asking whether concerns about “Americans’ financial situations” were impacting his talks with Iran, he replied:“Not even a little bit,” the president said. “The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran — they can’t have a nuclear weapon. I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That’s all.”Close
