Police said more than 170 suspects were arrested in a six-month trial of live facial recognition in Croydon.

The Metropolitan Police said the suspects arrested included a 36-year-old woman wanted for failing to appear in court for an assault in 2004, a 31-year-old man wanted for voyeurism for more than six months, and a 41-year-old man wanted over a rape in November.

The pilot made use of cameras affixed to infrastructure such as lampposts at the north and south ends of Croydon’s high street, rather than van deployments as is usually the case.
