Noyb claims LinkedIn’s paywalled data access breaches GDPR
LinkedIn is facing a privacy complaint in Austria over a feature that lets only paying users see who’s viewed their profile on the professional social network.
European privacy rights group Noyb, which is supporting a complaint by an unnamed individual in Austria filed on Monday, argues that such information should be made available to Europeans for free under the bloc’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The data protection law provides Europeans with a suite of rights over their personal information, including a right of access (Article 15) whereby they should be able to obtain a copy of their data on request.
Microsoft-owned LinkedIn provides information on profile viewers to users who subscribe to its premium membership services, per Noyb, but it said data access requests made by non-paying users seeking the same information are denied by the company.
