Guwahati: As part of his continuing effort to foster peace and build trust among communities, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Kangchup Chingkhong, a foothill village in Imphal West district, and interacted with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).He assured the IDPs of their safe return to their respective homes and said that adequate security would be provided. He also assured them that a pucca structure to house security personnel would be constructed in the area soon.Singh distributed a one-time grant to 754 IDP college students under the Chief Minister’s College Students Rehabilitation Scheme (CMCSRS) at Imphal College in Imphal West.He also visited injured Tangkhul Naga villagers who are undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute for Medical Sciences (RIMS), Lamphel, Imphal West. The villagers were injured in a recent attack by armed miscreants at Sinakeithei under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district.Later in the evening, the Chief Minister visited Shija Hospital & Research Centre, Langol, Imphal West, and interacted with Naga patients injured in an attack by armed miscreants near Joujangtek in Noney district. He assured that the government would bear all medical expenses of the injured civilians.At Kangchup, the Chief Minister said that the trust deficit between communities would be bridged through dialogue, citing the example of Jiribam district, where communities are now living in harmony.He further said the government would examine grievances raised by IDPs regarding enhanced monetary assistance for the reconstruction of houses destroyed during the violence.He also informed the IDPs that ₹1.2 crore has been sanctioned for strengthening the Inter Village Road (IVR) and ₹1.94 crore for the construction of a water supply scheme. A market shed will also be constructed at a suitable location in the village.At Imphal College, the Chief Minister distributed ₹10,000 each to 754 internally displaced students through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to their respective bank accounts.Singh said that “those who are unable to return to their homes and birthplaces are experiencing the most difficult stage of humanity.”He said the government is working to rehabilitate all IDPs and added that job opportunities would be considered for displaced students after completion of skill development training.He further noted that the student community has been among the most affected during the conflict. Singh urged teachers and students to work together in efforts to bridge the trust deficit among different communities in the state.
