The Civil Rights Initiative Internationale (CRII) national president and former IPS officer K. Babu Rao, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of three Christian leaders in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

The victims — Reverend Vumthang Sitlhou, Pastor Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou — were respected spiritual figures known for their work in peace-building, humanitarian service, and reconciliation, the CRII said in a release here on Thursday (May 14, 2026).

Mr. Babu Rao and CRII joint secretary Suresh Pulugujju said Rev. Sitlhou, former general secretary of the Manipur Baptist Convention, was widely recognised for his lifelong commitment to justice and communal harmony. They termed the killings as a grave assault on human dignity, religious freedom, and constitutional values, warning that the incident reflects the worsening law and order situation in Manipur.

They expressed concern over prolonged ethnic violence, systematic targeting of Christian minorities, destruction of places of worship, and displacement of civilians. It criticised both the State and Central Governments for failing to restore peace and constitutional normalcy.
