Booking a cab that arrives within minutes and offers a comfortable, air-conditioned ride often feels like the easiest way to travel. However, the overall experience can completely depend on the behaviour of the driver. Recently, a woman from Patna, Ritika Suryavanshi, shared a troubling experience she faced while travelling to the airport in Bengaluru.Taking to Instagram, Ritika posted a video explaining how a disagreement over an AC cab allegedly escalated into a tense situation after the driver reportedly refused to stop the vehicle despite repeated requests and warnings about calling the police. She mentioned that her father had advised her not to speak publicly about the incident, but she decided to share it to help female followers remain cautious and aware while travelling alone.Dispute Began Over AC Cab BookingAccording to Ritika, she had booked an AC cab through Rapido while heading to the Bengaluru airport for a flight to Patna. She explained that she usually checks the “vibe” of a cab after entering it and noticed that this vehicle had slightly tinted windows, which are not permitted in India.Soon after getting into the cab, she politely requested the driver to switch on the air conditioner. The driver then questioned whether she had actually booked an AC cab. Ritika checked the app and showed him the booking details that clearly stated “AC Cab."Although the driver initially claimed he could not confirm the booking type, he later allegedly said that the AC was not functioning. Responding to this, she told him, “Look, whether your AC is working or not, that is not my problem. That is your issue to deal with."Driver Allegedly Refused to Stop the CabAfter the exchange, Ritika asked the driver to cancel the ride if the AC was not operational. However, the situation became more alarming when he allegedly refused to stop the vehicle.“He literally said, “The cab isn’t going to stop,"" she recalled. The woman said she immediately felt unsafe after hearing the driver refuse her request. "Kisi ko bhi call karlo, cab nahi rukegi," added the driver.Fearing for her safety, she contacted a nearby friend, shared her live location, and warned the driver that she would call the police. According to Ritika, the driver finally stopped the cab in the middle of the road, allowing her to step out safely. She then contacted customer support through the app to cancel the ride.‘For a Brief Moment, I Felt Utterly Unsafe’Describing the incident, Ritika said, “It was 12:00 PM, the middle of the day, in Bangalore. Yet, for a brief moment, I felt utterly unsafe."She further pointed out that the incident occurred during the afternoon and could have turned much worse had it happened late at night.Message to Women Travelling AloneRitika also shared a message for women who may face similar situations while travelling alone."If you are a girl and you are watching this video, daro mat aise situations mai, dimag se kaam lo," she advised.Social Media ReactionsThe incident triggered strong reactions online, with many users expressing concern over passenger safety."Their audacity is because they are confident no action will be taken," commented one user.Another shared, “I had the worst experience too they are such insane Bengaluru drivers don’t even care whether you feel safe or unsafe … always keep staring at you with upper front mirror always tries to scam you after knowing you are outsider,".[With TOI inputs]Disclaimer: This article is based on a user-generated post on Instagram.
