Srinagar: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday welcomed the statement of RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale calling for dialogue with Pakistan.The People's Democratic Party chief Mufti said that her party believes in dialogue process between India and Pakistan as it has a positive impact on J&K."If we want long-lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir window of dialogue with Pakistan has to remain open always. There is no other way out, but to engage in negotiations," said Mufti. She said that former prime minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee had said that one can change your friends not neighbours."It is a good thing that if general secretary of RSS has said that we should talk to Pakistan. There is no choice...You saw a small country like Iran stood against super powers like US and Israel and despite a war, no they want to resolve it through dialogue," said Mufti.She said that dialogue process started in the times of Vajapayee which continued in the times of Dr Manmohan Singh had a positive impact on J&K."During that period militancy declined and arrests and atrocities had declined as well. Even today there is surveillance here and Kashmiri muslim employees are being terminated from the service after labeling then as anti nationals... Houses are being bulldozed and institutions like Siraj ul Uloom are being shut down," said Mufti.She alleged that there is "a feeling fo suffocation in J&K and there is a environment of arrests and detentions." "FIRs are being filed for social media posts. There is nothing happening other then arrests and slapping PSAs. Dialogue is extremely important at this juncture," said Mufti.
