Expanding risk assessment efforts

Thailand's Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) office is accelerating efforts to strengthen the protection of children's rights in the digital age through a collaboration with the Thailand office of Unicef amid growing concerns over the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on young users.Recent discussions included Muhamad Rafique Khan, chief of child protection at Unicef, and Santi Sirithirajesd, child protection specialist at Unicef Thailand, as well as senior officials from the PDPC office, to explore policy frameworks and safeguards for children's personal data in an increasingly AI-driven environment.

Suraphong Plengkham, secretary-general of the PDPC, said the dialogue aims to elevate Thailand's standards for child data protection in line with the rapid evolution of AI technologies.

The agency invited Unicef to provide recommendations on its draft AI-related personal data protection guidelines following an earlier public consultation process.

"The PDPC prioritises integrating child-specific considerations into Thailand's personal data governance framework in a concrete and systematic manner," he said.
