Sungho Hong is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in South Korea, where he leads the Neuroscience-inspired AI group in the Center for Memory and Glioscience. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST).

Originally trained as a theoretical physicist, he earned his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania before transitioning into computational neuroscience. His research uses computational modeling to understand the biophysical mechanisms in the brain from circadian rhythms to sensorimotor learning. Before joining IBS in 2024, he spent over a decade conducting research at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) in Japan and previously held a fellowship at the University of Washington in USA. His current work explores the interface between biological neural networks and the development of next-generation artificial intelligence.
