The State government has advised people to take necessary precautions in view of the continuing oppressive heatwave and not venture out in the afternoon unless absolutely necessary.

The government said the weatherman has forecast temperatures above 44°C in some districts over the next few days. In view of warnings of hot winds in several districts, collectors have been kept on alert and instructed to take all necessary measures to prevent adverse impacts on public health.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said district administrations must stay prepared to handle heat wave conditions and unseasonal rains, with temperatures above 44C likely in several districts such as Adilabad, Kumrambheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal while Jagtial, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Peddapalli districts too were likely to register higher temperatures.

“Unless an emergency arises, people are advised to stay indoors between 8.30 a.m. and 5 p.m.,” he said.

Children, elderly and pregnant women in particular should follow utmost caution and consume adequate water, buttermilk or ORS from time to time.
