The South Carolina Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned Alex Murdaugh’s murder convictions and ordered a new trial in the killing of his wife and son in 2021, revitalizing a case that captivated the country.
The South Carolina Supreme Court, in a unanimous vote, ruled that former Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill “egregiously attacked” Murdaugh’s credibility and defense in comments she made to the jury.
“Hill placed her fingers on the scales of justice,” the court wrote, accusing Hill of “shocking jury interference” during the trial through “improper external influences.”
