President Donald Trump was raked over the coals on social media Tuesday for comments he made before departing on his trip to China.
Speaking to a reporter outside of Marine One, Trump said something that, as Pod Save America host Dan Pfeiffer put it, “used to end political careers.”
“What extent are Americans’ financial situation motivating you to make a deal?” the reporter asked.
“Not even a little bit,” Trump replied. ”...I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation.”
With gas prices skyrocketing, inflation hitting 3.8%, the midterm elections looming and Trump polling at record lows, it’s unknown what was going through his head when he made the statement. But Democrats still took the time to thank him for seemingly handing them the best midterm talking point they could’ve asked for:
