After taking oath as West Bengal Chief Minister on May 9, 2026, Suvendu Adhikari chaired his first Cabinet meeting on Monday (May 11, 2026) and said his government has decided to transfer of land to the Border Security Force for erecting a fence along the Bangladesh border and approved immediate implementation of Central schemes such as the Ayushman Bharat and the Census exercise in the State.
During the day, the Chief Minister also allocated portfolios to the five Ministers who took oath with him on May 9. Dilip Ghosh, former Bengal BJP president and MLA from Kharagpur Sadar, has been appointed as the Minister in charge of Panchayat and Rural Development, and Animal Resource Development and Agricultural Marketing, while Agnimitra Paul, MLA from Asansol Dakshin, will hold charge of Women and Child Development, Social Welfare and Municipal Affairs Departments. Ashok Kirtania, a prominent Matua face in the Cabinet and MLA from Bongaon Uttar, has been given charge of the Food and Supplies and Co-operation Department and Khudiram Tudu, MLA from Ranibandh seat who hails from a tribal community, has been assigned the responsibility of Tribal Development, Backward Classes Welfare and Minority Affairs & Madrashah Education.
