May 11 (UPI) -- A century-old heirloom locket was returned to a New Zealand family nearly two months after it was lost at a store.
New Zealand Police said the gold locket was found by a woman at Woolworths in Pukekohe South in March.
The woman handed the locket over to Counties Manukau Police, who posted a photo of the item to Facebook in the hopes of finding its owner.
"Weeks went by and nothing," Senior Sgt. Jeremy Steedman said in a news release. "We were starting to lose hope that someone would claim it, until last week when we were visited by Cameron out of the blue."
The man, Cameron, told police his mother, Merle Brett, had lost the locket while shopping. He was able to give officers a detailed description of the photos inside the locket, which depicted Brett's mother-in-law and father-in-law.
