May 10 (UPI) -- At least six bodies were found in a boxcar in a Texas city along the Mexican border Sunday, according to authorities, who said an investigation is ongoing.

Little information about the incident has been made public.

The police department in Laredo said the Union Pacific boxcar with multiple people inside was found at about 2:30 p.m. near 12100 Jim Young Way in the South Texas city of about 261,000 people that borders Mexico's Nuevo Laredo.

It was unclear if there were any survivors also found in the boxcar. The identities and ages of the deceased have not been released.

"Union Pacific is saddened by this incident and is working closely with law enforcement to investigate," Union Pacific told UPI in an emailed statement.
