May 8 (UPI) -- The Pentagon announced the release of never-before-seen files on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, previously known as UFOs, on Friday.

It launched a website with files collected over decades related to UAPs, including scans of letters from concerned citizens, reports of sightings, newspaper clippings, government responses and photos from alleged sites.

The release of UAP files follows direction from President Donald Trump in February. In a social media post, Trump ordered government officials to release "government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena [UAP], and Unidentified Flying Objects [UFOs]."

It is titled "Release 01" and the Pentagon said additional files will be released "on a rolling basis."

"The American people can now access the federal government's declassified UAP files instantly," a press release from the Pentagon said. "The latest UAP videos, photos, and original source documents from across the entire United States government are all in one place -- no clearance required."
