A new $50 million donation has been given to the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.Will KirkThe W. P. Carey Foundation has made a $50 million gift to the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School, the university announced today.According to the announcement, the donation represents one of the ten largest private gifts ever made to a U.S. graduate business school. It will be used to expand entrepreneurship programs for students, provide additional funding for startup accelerators, recruit more MBA students, increase faculty professorships, and strengthen the school’s contributions to Baltimore area’s economy and various industry partners.“The Carey Foundation has always been focused not only on student excellence and getting them well-prepared for their future, but also has been really interested in the ability of our students to be successful in business and to drive the economy, in particular in Baltimore,” Carey Business School Dean Alex Triantis said in the news release.Maryland Governor Wes Moore added, “by strengthening programs in entrepreneurship and the business of health, this investment is creating pathways for innovation, job creation and long term prosperity—right here in Baltimore. It is a powerful example of how investment in education can strengthen communities, expand opportunity and build a more resilient economic future.”The Carey Business School has focused on becoming a leader in health-care business education and the commercialization of technology. The new gift will help strengthen connections for its MBA students to the Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures and the Pava Marie LaPere Center for Entrepreneurship, a Hopkins business incubator. Carey Foundation was founded in 1990 by philanthropist and businessman William Polk Carey, who was the founder of W. P. Carey & Co., a real estate financing firm. The Foundation focuses on three main areas for its charitable giving: business and legal education, primary and secondary education and community support. Counting this latest contribution, the foundation has now donated $125 million to the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School since its founding in 2007.In addition to Johns Hopkins University, the Foundation has made major gifts to the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, and the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and the Wharton Business School. Since its founding, the Foundation has granted nearly $450 million to hundreds of institutions.William P. Carey II, chair of the W. P.
