Hundreds of tribals and peasants marched in Dahanu in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) to submit land-related claims to the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO). The march was led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and All India Kisan Sabha.

As per a press release issued by the party, 15,000 peasants from the two tehsils of Dahanu and Talasari in Palghar district were present for the march.

According to CPI (M), similar rallies of thousands of peasants will be held at every Sub-Divisional Office in the district, and thousands of land claims will be submitted from May 6 to 12.

“The SDO agreed to re-examine all the claims on a war footing and grant land rights at the very earliest. As a result of the historic Palghar, Nashik, and Akole Long Marches in 2026, the Collectors and later the State Government were forced to give in writing that all land-related claims, including those under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), old landlords’ lands, temple lands, house site lands etc would be freshly re-considered, and these land rights would be vested in the names of the peasants,” Ashok Dhawale, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member, said.

During the rally, several local issues related to water, irrigation, electricity, employment, education, ration, roads, etc. were raised by the leaders. The decision of the central government to slash the number of PESA mobiliser women from 3,000 to 1,000 in Maharashtra was condemned.
