Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has asserted that the decisions taken by the government should be guided by public interest and the welfare schemes should effectively reach the common man.

He said the government is undertaking innovative initiatives to ensure access to nutritious food for poor and students. Jowar and maize procured through MARKFED should not remain merely as market commodities but should be supplied directly to the poor through the Public Distribution System (PDS). Since open auctions could benefit middlemen, he wanted officials to explore measures to distribute these grains through the ration system.

The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a meeting of the Cabinet sub committee on resource mobilisation here on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed the guidelines of the proposed HILT policy, particularly focusing on relocating polluting industries beyond the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Officials were directed to finalise these guidelines as early as possible so that orders could be issued.

Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka directed officials to supply nutritious grains to students studying in Gurukuls and hostels belonging to SC, ST, BC, and minority communities, ensuring they received healthy food. As the State was known as annapurna, no student should suffer from malnutrition, he said.
