The Andhra Pradesh State SC Commission has initiated an inquiry into the alleged encroachment of land belonging to a Dalit landholder at Chepaluppada in Bheemunipatnam mandal of Visakhapatnam district.
Acting on the directions of Commission Chairman K. S. Jawahar, members Mekala Bhiksham and Ravada Seetharam inspected the site on Tuesday and heard both parties.
The complainant, T. Appalakonda, alleged that about three acres in Survey No. 51, purchased by his forebears, had been encroached upon by K. Venkataramana Murthy during his absence. He also alleged that he was threatened when he questioned the occupation.
The Commission noted delays in invoking the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and pointed to lapses in issuing a clear survey certificate. It assured that appropriate follow-up action would be taken.
