Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Monday directed the Land Acquisition Officer and Special Deputy Collector of Mid Manair Reservoir to appear before the Bench on Wednesday, in a writ petition filed by three senior citizens over non payment of ₹19.05 lakh compensation awarded to them.

The judge also sought to know why the officer declined to take the legal notices served by the petitioners over payment of the compensation. The compensation was awarded in 2023 for the houses acquired by the government at Cheerlavancha village in Thangalapally mandal of Rajanna Siricilla district.

The officer was actually supposed to appear before the bench in the matter on Monday as per the judge’s direction issued on April 29. The government counsel said that the officer had to attend a meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister and hence could not turn up before the Bench. Taking a serious note of the officer’s absence, the judge wanted to know why the officer did not receive the legal notices served by the petitioners.

Tuition fee payment

In another case, Justice Juvavdi Sri Devi of the HC on Monday extended the interim order on suspension of clause XII of para 5 of G.O. Ms. No. 7 until further orders. On April 30, the judge had suspended the clause that mandates private educational institutions to not insist on payment of tuition fee and other charges at the time of admission requiring students to pay fees from amounts credited to their accounts under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, also known as the fee reimbursement scheme.
