Soon after the counting of votes began and early results pointed to a huge victory for Mr. Vijay, hundreds of party cadres started gathering at his residence and office at Neelankarai and Panaiyur respectively, police sources said on Monday.

“Security to the TVK leader’s residence and office has been beefed up to regulate the surging number of party cadres. The presence of police personnel was strengthened only after a large crowd gathered to see the TVK leader,” a senior police officer said.
Tambaram City Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar also inspected the vicinity of the TVK party office and reviewed security arrangements. Officials said surveillance had been stepped up and access to the premises was being closely regulated.
