With the southwest monsoon expected to set in in the coming weeks, environmental activists have urged the Coimbatore Corporation to immediately commence desilting of canals and stormwater drains to prevent waterlogging and ensure free flow of the runoff.

Activists said several arterial canals and drains are currently choked with silt, debris, and dense vegetation. They warned that without immediate intervention, low-lying areas face the risk of flooding once the rains begin.
