A space outside a fair price shop in Kolapakkam, once misused by tipplers and anti-social elements, has been transformed into a clean, functional and community-friendly reading hub, thanks to the initiative of a ration shop employee.
Velu Chinnasamy, salesman in-charge of the Nedungundram Grade-I Panchayat ration shop, about 12 km from Tambaram, spearheaded the effort over the past five years. The open area in front of the shop was first fitted with a thatched roof in 2021 to provide shade for customers.
