“Choose a career that suits your interest and temperament. You have to be sure if what you like to do for the rest of your life aligns with your temperament and attitude. Otherwise, it can be a disappointing career choice,’’ Laxman Nimbargi, Superintendent of Police, said in Vijayapura on May 2.

He was addressing students after inaugurating The Hindu Education Plus Career Fair 2026 in the BLDEA P. G. Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology auditorium.

The engineering graduate spoke about the reasons that made him write the UPSC examinations.

“Since the time I shifted to Hubballi from my village, I began thinking about society and the challenges people face. It seemed that of all the options before me, I was drawn towards public service. It motivated me because I wanted to be with the people, and help them in whatever way I can. You can gauge my attraction towards public service, as I wrote the civil services examinations in the midst of the IT boom. I had studied computer science, and would have easily got a job in IT. That was because it was clear to me that I did not want to sit in an air-conditioned room and play with machines. I wanted to work with people,” he said.
