The National Disaster Management Authority will conduct a nationwide test of the Cell Broadcast Alert System on Saturday (May 2, 2026) as part of efforts to strengthen emergency communication mechanisms.
The test will cover Delhi NCR and the capital cities of all States and Union Territories, excluding border areas and poll-bound States.
During the exercise, citizens may receive an emergency alert notification on their mobile phones, which could be accompanied by a loud sound or vibration. Officials clarified that the alert is only a test message intended to assess the effectiveness of the system and does not indicate any real emergency.
The exercise is aimed at ensuring timely dissemination of critical information during actual disasters and improving preparedness of communication systems.
Authorities have urged people not to panic upon receiving the alert.
