The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab sailed through the confidence motion in the State Assembly moved by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during a one-day special session on Friday (May 1, 2026).
Before the passage of the motion, CM Mann said the party was “united”, but it was moved to counter “false rumours and news”. H asserted that the confidence motion should be passed unanimously in the State Assembly.
“In today’s national politics, the Aam Aadmi Party has established its position in such a way that candidates — from councillors to the Chief Minister, and Mayors in cities — have been winning,” he said.

The ruling party’s move came amid chaotic scenes in the State Assembly with Opposition parties levelling allegations against CM Mann, claiming he appeared intoxicated during the Vidhan Sabha proceedings.
