Author and New York cultural icon Fran Lebowitz wants people to stop associating President Donald Trump with the city she loves.
“The thing that makes New Yorkers the angriest about Trump is that other people think he’s a New Yorker,” she told Australia’s “Good Weekend Talks” podcast last week. “New Yorkers do not think that. New Yorkers don’t think that. We never thought that.”
Lebowitz told host Amanda Hooton that Trump, who was born in New York and spent much of his life as a city resident, has never won the city in any of his three presidential runs.
“He never even comes here because he’s so hated,” said Lebowitz, who is the subject of the Netflix series “Pretend It’s A City,” which is an acerbic love letter to New York City.
Trump changed his residency to Florida in 2019 and rarely returns to his former hometown. When he does, Trump is often greeted by protesters, and his Trump Tower is a popular site for demonstrations, whether he’s there or not.
