The Hyderabad Cricket Association on Wednesday (April 29, 2026) unveiled the Telangana T20 League (TG20), positioning it as a long-awaited platform to nurture local talent and integrate the State more prominently into India’s competitive cricketing landscape.
Agam Rao, chairman, Governing Council of TG20, said the league was more than just a tournament and represented a broader vision to place Telangana firmly on India’s cricketing map. He noted that while the State has consistently produced talent, the absence of a structured, high-quality platform had limited its visibility.
HCA secretary Jeevan Reddy highlighted that the league would connect local cricket with the national stage, offering players from smaller backgrounds a chance to showcase their abilities.
HCA president Amarnath termed the unveiling of the TG20 logo a dream come true and said the league would act as a stepping stone for players aspiring to reach higher levels, including the Indian Premier League (IPL). He urged stakeholders to consider expanding the number of teams from 8 to 10, noting that 14 franchises had already expressed interest.
BCCI apex council representative V. Chamundeswaranath said the initiative could significantly improve player visibility, projecting that several cricketers from Hyderabad and parts of Telangana could make it to the IPL through the league.
