On Tuesday, April 28, Chanel presented its 2026-2027 cruise collection in Biarritz, southwestern France. It marked the first time Matthieu Blazy, who became artistic director of the Parisian house in April 2025, took on this particular challenge. The 41-year-old French-Belgian designer spoke to Le Monde about this new experience.

What makes a cruise collection unique?

An old-fashioned definition might say these are practical clothes designed to be packed in a suitcase [born at the start of the 20th century, cruise collections originally catered to wealthy clients who traveled to sunny destinations in winter]. In reality, today these collections remain in boutiques for six months, and clients who travel want a complete wardrobe, including evening dresses. I would say, rather, that it is a collection created with great seriousness, but lighter in spirit than the others. There is sun, there is color. It should simply make people dream.
