Prior to Tuesday’s dinner, Charles delivered an address to Congress, the only British monarch aside from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, to do so. He was not expected to delve into politics, as the monarchy represents the U.K., rather than governs it. Charles made only veiled references to disagreements with the U.S. during his speech, telling lawmakers, “ours is an indispensable partnership. We must not disregard everything that has sustained us for the last 80 years, instead we must build on it.” He and Camilla travel to New York Wednesday before heading back to the U.K.Further ReadingGuests at state dinner honoring King Charles III include Tim Cook, Robert Kraft (Washington Post)At State Dinner, King Charles Charms the Court of Trump (New York Times)Jeff Bezos and Tim Cook Among Guests at State Dinner Honoring King Charles III and Queen Camilla (Wall Street Journal)
