MOSCOW, April 29. /TASS/. The United States and its Euro-Atlantic allies continue to purposefully use the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) as a tool to advance their geopolitical interests and objectives, reads a commentary by the Russian Security Council on chemical disarmament as a geopolitical tool.

"The Euro-Atlantic allies, led by the United States, continue to purposefully use the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) as a tool to advance their own geopolitical interests and preserve their notorious 'rules-based international order,'" the Russian Security Council stated.

In this regard, it recalled that the destruction of chemical weapons on Russian territory was carried out within the framework of the federal program "Destruction of Chemical Weapons Stockpiles in the Russian Federation," approved by Russian Government Resolution No. 305 of March 21, 1996.

"During the implementation of this federal program, the total volume of chemical weapons destroyed amounted to 39,967 tons of toxic substances, or 100% of the declared chemical weapons stockpiles," the Russian Security Council specified. "Between December 19, 2002, and September 27, 2017, all chemical weapons stockpiles were completely destroyed - 4,352,033 chemical munitions, 107 large-capacity tanks, and 927 containers containing toxic agents such as sarin (GB), soman (GD), VX, mustard gas (HD), lewisite (L), and mustard gas-lewisite mixtures."
