Don Lemon on Monday railed against a burgeoning narrative from MAGA Republicans about Saturday’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, which saw President Donald Trump evacuated from the Washington Hilton Hotel ballroom.

The journalist began by noting during a monologue on “The Don Lemon Show” that “rhetoric really matters,” and then launched into a fiery rant about all the conservative voices who blame the shooting on anti-Trump rhetoric from Democratic lawmakers and pundits.

“I cannot say with a straight face … that Democrats saying Trump is terrible for this country is the same thing as Donald Trump standing in front of a crowd on Jan. 6 and telling them to march to the Capitol and ‘fight like hell,’” Lemon said Monday.

The former CNN host continued, “I cannot say those things are equivalent because they are not. I am so sick of false equivalence. It drives me fucking crazy, because that is bullshit — because these things are not equivalent.”

The Trump administration appeared to launch into a full-court press following Saturday’s shooting with one united message: Democratic lawmakers and the media incite this kind of violence with their purportedly inflammatory criticisms of the MAGA leader and his team.
